Newborn {Emily} | Tacoma Washington Newborn Photographer

Adorable 12 day new baby Emily was a joy to photograph! Such a sweet easy going little girl.

Yesterday I was a wedding photographer!

Even if for only a couple hours.... it was wonderful and I loved every minute of it! Of course, I didn't sleep at all the night before, worried and nervous I would miss a shot... Being a photographer's wedding there were FIVE amazing photographers there and a ton of guests with cameras. I didn't know if this should make me more nervous or less nervous! They were all extremely nice and very talented and I think I did a great job beings that it was my first try and I was there to shoot mostly candids. The photos turned out amazing so far and I can't wait to keep editing! I would post them up right now but I am not on my main computer so it will have to wait until I am. I just had to jump in and talk about it while I am still full of excitement!

Oh Memorial day, one of those days I wish I was a full time photographer!

Someday I will make my own hours...but not today. Today I sit in a building by myself. I think I passed four cars on my way here this morning!

So last night we started the wonderful task of getting my two and a half year old twins from cribs into toddler beds. We got these awesome beds, one train and one fire truck. They love them, when they are in the livingroom. The older twin, Logan, does not do change. He fights it and this was no different. We took the cribs down and you could see the stress on his little face, poor thing. Liam was just looking on with unsurity. (is that a word?) Anyways we try to put them down and normal time and Logan lays down but Liam flips, we get them back up and watch a show to calm down. Try number 2 Liam lays down and Logan flips! (Oh the joy of having twins!) and we are back up. Several more tries and my husband gives up, puts them on the couch and turns all the lights off. Now, for those that don't know me all that well, my husband is a stay at home dad while I work, go to school and swing the photography gig. So I, of course, have to get up at four in the morning and eventually have to go to bed.

About eleven, Logan was asleep on one couch and Liam almost asleep on another. I went to bed. Ryan at some point transferred them into the new beds and came to bed himself. I was in a coma so I have no idea what time that was! About four, right before I get up, come the screams.... they were not having it. Milk and hugs were not going to stop it so back to the couch went all three of them. They were so cute as I left all passed out! I wanted to take a picture but I was afraid I would wake them. I have two older kids and so I know this is possible, I wish I could remember how long it took with them....

So the awesome beds are empty and poor Ryan is going to have some TIRED cranky boys today. So I guess it is not SO bad that I am stuck at work today.... by myself.... in the quiet, blogging :)

Website excitement!!!

Today was wonderful, so relaxing! I decided that it was the perfect time to actually sit down and access this website situation. I had a wonderful company Serendipity DS (www.serendipityds.com) design a one page site for me but I really needed something a little more functional. My site is not perfect, I still have a lot of ideas but for right now it is a LOT better!!!

My first maternity newborn follow up!!! I am so excited about it! He is adorABLE! Such a sweetheart but he does NOT like to be naked. Mommy had this amazing collection of quilts family members had made and a family cradle that had been in use for 35 years. We were able to wrap this all up into the session and come up with some beautiful images!

What a great session with a couple of amazing kids!!! Matthew and his younger brother Ryan met me on a rainy afternoon (in Seattle, shocking right!?) ready to go! Ryan was not only willing to jump in a couple pictures but he was a HUGE help too!
Matthew was a natural, posing himself and coming out with ideas on pictures himself, which all turned out fantastic! I look forward to Ryan being a Senior, their cousin Markus being a Senior and any other opportunity I get to work with their family!

Exhaustion and Excitement!

Oh...my...gosh am I tired! I have to say that I am really truly loving this photography business but boy do I wish I could do it full time and NOTHING else! Work really gets in the way of a new business! :P

I can't believe all the positive response I have gotten to this, it makes me tear up just thinking about it. I have high hopes for the future between this and school. I could definitely see this becoming a career. My kids are getting a little frustrated I think, mommy always showing up with new stuff and the same question every time... :is that for pictures?" Poor things!

I read on twitter today (Follow Me) about how as soon as you get that first follower you feel the need to be what they expect you to be when really they just want to be you.... so I am going to really try to just be me, all bitchy, funny, sarcastic me. Hopefully you can all hang ;) I will try to be at least semi entertaining through words or photos. If at any point you feel I am being fake, just cyber slap me.

So tomorrow I have a Senior session, my FIRST one and I am nervous and excited all in one! It says it is going to rain and I hope hope HOPE it breaks long enough to get some good sunshine pictures for him. After that I have baby Lucas on Thursday the beautiful adorable baby boy of my first Maternity shoot! I can't wait :)

This week is going to be crazy but I need to get it in now because I have two weeks until finals and then school will take all my attention that week. Summer quarter I start the photography program at school and I truly can't wait to learn! I think my camera and I have a good understanding but I am all for learning and growing. I have to say that I have hopes of possibly getting a follower at some point..... that would be nice :)

PHOTO CONTEST!!!

Having my very first Photo Contest over on Facebook!! I am very excited about this, hoping to give one lucky person a great shoot and get some more attention going to the page! I have spent a lot of this week trying to determine where I want to go from here. Trying to determine a style and purpose. Although I hope to have some income with this it is moreso helping people really record their special moments. I have pictures everywhere, tons of them. It helps me remember all the moments with my children that I assumed I would nevr forget, well guess what? I look at those photos thinking, "Oh, I remember that!" I wouldn't without those photos.
I have noticed there are a MILLION photographers out there with different styles and talent levels and I am constantly reminding myself not to compare myself good or bad. I want to work we these people to better myself and them! Why must we compete and be negative towards each other. Accusing each other of things. It is silly! We all want the same thing. I have watched a lot of negativity and even had some directed at me already. I have to assume this is based on jealousy which is horribly sad. Don't get jealous, get better and make a new friend! :)
This is Monday, a new day, a new week. My goal this week is to better myself in some way. I want to learn a new ability or trick. I want to show a new skill and help others better themselves. I want to be happy and enjoy this as that is why I started doing it in the first place!

Another step in the right direction.....

Today folks, well me since I still have no followers :(, I bought a domain name. There is officially a http://www.rebeccarileyphotography.com/ I have no idea what to do with it or how to do anything with it..... but, it's baby steps, right??? I am excited about it!

This week is slowing down, I only had one shoot of adorable baby Macy this last week and I have two this week. Friday is family shots for Macy's family and Saturday is an old friend Haelyi and her cutie little girls!

This is definetly teaching me patience if nothing else because I can't make this go any faster. It is an investment and it will take time to build a clientel. **sigh** patience is not my strong suit!

I will blog, I will blog, I will blog......

My interests and hopes and dreams involve writing and now photography. Hoping to put these two together I formed this blog, of which I constantly forget to come and write on. Why is this so hard?

Easter weekend! I had an amazing four whole days off from my regular "9-5" which was amazing.... amazingly busy that is! Dying eggs, newborn shoot with an adorable baby, maternity shoot with a fantastic couple, and of course Easter dinner! I loved every minute of it. My kids had a wonderful day and so did we, family and all! ;)

Baby Lily was my Thursday shoot, a tiny 9 days new she was a wonderful little thing! She cuddled perfectly into every pose and was a great starter baby for my brand new baby sling! I got a huge amount of photos including family for her mom and dad! Who, by the way, got married on Saturday!!! Congrats to you two!!

Elisabeth and Jeremy were my super fun Maternity shoot on Saturday! Oh man what a fun day that was! I took a TON of pictures! Some serious and some fun it was an amazing first time Maternity shoot for me. Congrats to you two and I cannot wait to take baby's pictures!

So my journey is coming along.... and I am still enjoying it! I see me progress in my pictures as I try new things and get more comfortable with my camera and my ability. Like anything, this is going to be a long time learning process and I look forward to watching myself grow as a person and photographer. I appreciate the support I have recieved and the help and advice I have gotten from mentors! Here is too the future!

In the beginning.....

There was a mom and a camera who had a fantastic idea to try and take pictures. Well turns out I love it!
